Anthony Hamilton – Charlene (So So Def)

Pretty much like a nomad, wandering from a label to another without significant success, including on Andre Harrell‘s Uptown imprint, Charlotte, NC born singer Anthony Cornelius Hamilton would get the consecration in 2003 with the release of his ‘Comin’ From Where I’m From’ on Jermaine Dupri So So Def stable. An album which included one of his biggest hits ever, by the likes of the lascivious and vibrant ‘Charlene’ co-written with Mark Batson, on a mood quite reminding of what Noel Gourdin would do a few years later. A song that would get Hamilton nominated for “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” at the 2005 Grammy Awards, only beaten by Prince‘s ‘Call My Name’. West Coast rapper Murs sampled it on the 2008 released ‘Break Up (The OJ Song)’, taken from his ‘Murs For President’ album…
