Aretha Franklin – Freeway Of Love (Arista)

A Gospel trained singer – she started her career at her father, minister C.L. Franklin‘s church, as a child – Aretha Franklin stands as one of the greatest Soul singers of all times, with no less that 18 Grammy Awards to her credit to date. Inclined to address herself to a reputedly younger audience by the beginning of the 80’s, she would collaborate with producers Luther Vandross, Marcus Miller and Ray Bardani (on the ‘Jump To It’ and ‘Get It Right’ albums, respectively released in 1982 and 1983). Then, 2 years after on the Narada Michael Walden produced ‘Who’s Zomming Who’ album featuring guests such as Carlos Santana, The Eurythmics and Peter Wolf.
Opening the later, ‘Freeway of Love’ has the distinctive sound from its producer, seeing her jamming along with the late Clarence Clemons on saxophone over an electronic synth-led rhythm pattern…
