Chic – Your Love (12" Remix) (Warner Bros.)

This specific piece of music always had a special meaning to me. First, because being a Chic die-hard fan, it marked the return of the band after a long hiatus period with their ‘Chicism’ album. Second, because the latter gave me the opportunity to meet both Nile and Nard in Paris for an interview. And last but not least, because this remix by the likes of Nellee Hooper of the Soul II Soul fame gave them the necessary updated sound for the time being, eventually enhancing what stood as their trademark such as the killer strings over a piano driven bouncing (Housey) rhythm pattern with thanks to Bernard Edwards unmistakable style on bass…
Although sick while touring in Japan back in 1996, Bernard did his thing against all ods on stage, eventually blackin’ out for a while, with his partner assuming the absence of bass being like an improvisation. Edwards retired to his hotel room after the concert where he was later found dead by Nile. The cause of death was ruled to be pneumonia. He was 43…
