De La Soul featuring Nas – God It

First Listen: De La Soul featuring Nas – God It (AOI Records)

A Jazz-inflected new track, says Rolling Stone about this awaited new offering by the likes of De La Soul. What a joke once more… As if we on iDMW came up with some review about a Rock band to nothing but try to expand our audience to extra horizons!

Come on, folks, as recently said on these shores, let’s just call a spade a spade, will you??? So what is this ‘God It’ about? The boys have instead come up with an infectious Rhythm and Blues-influenced sax led hook over a minimal although sharp beat. And they melted the whole with a synth part reminding of some G Rap joints to deliver their conscious lyrics along with Nas.

An album to become their eighth to date is most likely due to follow. Additional featurings include Damon Albarn, David Byrne, 2 Chainz, and Little Dragon.

“While busy at work, we also like to play”, the group wrote in a statement. “This song is not on the new album, but an indication of good music to come. The song was produced by G-Force and you may recognize our featured guest. We’re still in Atlanta recording and it sounds amazing! We can’t wait to get this new album to you.”

Overview…
– Hip-Hop trio De La Soul saw the light back in 1987 on Long Island, NY. Born from the reunion between high school mates Posdnuous, Maseo and Dave who formed a group, they came to the attention of producer Prince Paul.
They most likely made themselves a name for their versatility, as displayed on their sampling. The quality of their lyrics. Not to mention their contribution to the evolution of Jazz Rap along with Gangstarr. Their debut-album, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’, is widely seen as a Hip-Hop manifesto.

De La Soul are the second longest standing Native Tongues Posse group after the Jungle Brothers. In 2006, the thresome won a Grammy for their collaboration with Gorillaz on ‘Feel Good Inc.’
