Deniece Williams – Free (Columbia)

‘Silly’, ‘It’s Gonna Take A Miracle’, ‘Let’s Hear It For The Boy’ are as many classics which has contributed to put Deniece Williams on the map, in addition to her memroable duets with Johnny Mathis.
From her ‘This Is Niecy’ album which would mark her debut back in 1976, this vibrant jazzy cool swingalong standing as the lady’s signature song. With production work by the likes of Maurice White, of Earth, Wind & Fire fame, and Charles Stepney (remembered for his work for Rotary Connection and Minnie Riperton) who tragically died of a heart attack by the time it was released. One of Kenny Dope‘s all time favorite, which would be given a brilliant cover version, 18 years later, by Bay Area-based songstress Chanté Moore
