Eartha Kitt – Santa Baby (RCA)

From her birth on a cotton plan close to the small town of North, in Orangeburg, SC on Jan. 17, 1927, Eartha Kitt had this typical Deep South Black America tone in her distinctive singing style. Considered as the “most exciting woman in the world” by Orson Welles, she expressed her talent as an actress (starring as Catwoman in the final season of TV series ‘Batman’), a cabaret star, a dancer, a comedian and of course a singer too, eventually makin’ a memorable come back after a 22 year hiatus back in 1983 along with French producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo (Village People, Ritchie Family) with the Disco smash ‘Where Is My Man’.
We catch her 30 years earlier, with the 1953 Joan Javits and Philip Springer penned ‘Santa Baby’ seeing her despicting extravagant gifts she’d like to be receiving in such a vibrant way.
One of her signature songs given an impressive amount of cover versions from artists such as Pink Martini, Madonna, Mariah Carey, RuPaul, Jhene and Macia Gray among many others.
Eartha died from colon cancer on Christmas Day 2008, at her home in Weston, CT at the age of 81.
