Glenn Underground – Conquistador

Classics: Glenn Underground – Conquistador (Strictly Jaz Unit)
One of the essential reasons why I’ve been caught up by the sound of G.U. is his massive knowledge of music allowing him to be so fascinating and versatile. 16 years have gone since the release of this monsterjam on Dust Traxx and it still sounds as deadly modern and captivating.
Standing like an extrapolation / answer to ‘The Samba’, taken from the 1978 released ‘Soft Space’ album by the likes of the Jeff Lorber Fusion featuring Chick Corea and Joe FarrellGlenn brings us into a unique world where his maestria of the synthesizers and keyboards predominates over an irresistible rhythm pattern.
Here we’re talking serious music. Music from an absolute genius, from a Conquistador…

Overview
With many musicians in his family, Chicago born Glenn Underground embraced a myriad of sounds from an early age. He would get extra inspiration from luminaries such as Ron Hardy, Larry Heard and Lil’ Louis back at a time – the mid-80’s – when House Music appeared. Something one could instantly feel when having a listen to his own productions. Be they dealing with Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco vibes or eventually all of them.

A founding member of the Strictly Jaz Unit alongside Boo Williams, Glenn has produced some of the most well respected pieces of Deep House of the last decades. His releases for Prescription, Guidance and Peacefrog have set the standard for sophisticated Dance Music. He is one of the very rare DJ’s who can walk the line between Deep Jazz House, Disco influenced House, and the kind of classics featured at the memorable parties of late 70’s Chicago.
