Indamixworldwide given an Extended Remix!

Editorials: Indamixworldwide given an Extended Remix!

(*) A remix is a piece of media which has been altered from its original state by adding, removing, and/or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new. (Wikipedia)

RemixWell I suppose Wikipedia said (almost) it all in their definition. With the exception that it could apply to anything getting revamped, beginning with a website! And why would we rework something if not with the aim to make it better at the end? This being pretty much what we’ve been working on over the last couple of months. And for this to happen, we’ve sort of try to stick to Barry White‘s definition of a (good) remix…

“A good remix requires to enhance both the structure of a song (if ever necessary) and its emotional content. Otherwise, why would we ever need this to be done?” No need to tell you how we fully subscribe to this statement. And even more in an environment where people tend to recycle everything, with often less than real acuracy! And no need telling you neither how the task happened to be such a challenge, knowing where we’re coming from…

Architecture (Remix)…

The first thing we had to do was to migrate from a blog hosting service provider to a self-hosted website. And God as to those who’ve experienced this know how delicate it is. You don’t move almost 2000 posts from a place to another the way you would for instance with say 50 or 100 of them. Well, that was the step 1. We also had to make sure everything was in place, from the posts to the attached documents, which was step 2.
Then we thought of an extension which might expand the idea of dynamism. And this is how we came to change our primary domain from a dotcom (even though you still can use it) to a dotlive. We therefore had to change the structure of our permalinks, but also change our internal links (still in the making).

Last but not least, we thought about changing the architecture of the site, meanwhile using a more straight forward terminology such as in our review section.

Design (Remix)…

Like it or not, a relocation is always synonymous a calling into question(s). Simply because what you get from a place may not be the same at some other. In other words, we had to adapt ourselves to our new environment and proceed to the necessary adjustments. We tried to remain though as close as possible to the look those of you already familiar with these shores know. But in the meantime, new ideas came to mind one after another, explaining the retouches you may see here or there. We’ve decided to feature the players at the top of our reviews from now on. But if you feel more comfy having them down, just let us know and we’ll rectify the things…

We tried to come up with a more handy architecture. And this most likely suggested us to come up with a slightly clearer if not more or less minimal approach. Then came the idea of a new logo and a new favicon, with renewed thanks to Gary Van den Bussche for the suggestion. And to Ray Hayden for the realization.

Facilities (Remix)…

Well, being in the position to bring you some new facilities is the reason #1 that pushed us to migrate. As a result, you’re offered to have a listen to some recommended radio stations directly from here. We eventually bring you the forecast based on your location. We’ve redesigned our connection with Traxsource which you can see both on some of our reviews embedding their player. But also in our monthly Traxsource IDMW Top 10. We’ve expanded our editorial content with an ‘Overview’ accompanying each review for more info about an artist or a remixer. We’re also embedding videos free of adverts. Meanwhile we made sure our other links come without autoplay.

We also give you the possiblility to comment directly from the social network you may be using. Be it Facebook, Twitter or Google +.

We couldn’t wait getting back to editorial activities by the return of the Summer holidays. Therefore, we count on your tolerance and patience, as we’re still undergoing reconstruction for the time being.

Needless to say we appreciate all your suggestions, such as pointing out everything we might have to correct in order to provide you with a better service. Feel free to use either our contact form either to leave a comment for this to happen.
