James Brown – Santa Claus, Go Straight To The Ghetto (King/Polydor)

Born in Barwell, SC from an extremely poor family, James Brown stands as one of the most brilliant examples of the American Dream, despite the countless excesses which contributed to get him to jail a few times for misbehavior.
In a career that spanned six decades, his artistic legacy is an absolute one of a kind, seen as the founder of Funk but also often referred as the ‘Godfather of Soul’, contributing to the development of the contemporary groove in many ways, but also as a dancer with an incomparable presence on stage admitted as highly influential on Michael Jackson‘s live shows!
We catch him back in 1968 on the opening cut to his ‘A Soulful Christmas’ album. A single soon after followed by the release of the seminal ‘Say It Loud, I’m Black And Proud)’.
James Brown died on Christmas 2006 at the Emory Crawford Long Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA where he’d been admitted two days before, of complications of pneumonia. He was 78…
