This Beat Is Mine! Mariah Carey – Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise) (Fly Away Club Mix) (Columbia)
I was havin’ a ride in a car with a DJ friend of mine the other day. We were listening to music when I came to hear this piece for the very first time. I could instantly recognize the voice of Mariah Carey. But I have to admit I couldn’t figure where this version was comin’ from, although there was something of familiar to me. He instantly said to me: “Listen, girl! Music is way more than R&B or Hip-Hop as played on the corporate radio stations. As a matter of fact, what you’re listening to is House Music. And most likely the draft of what became ‘Butterfly’ soon after.” Explaining me she recorded it 20 years ago with David Morales and Satoshi Tomiie who came up with various mixes.”
No need saying how ignorant I felt, discovering House Music could be more than the usual electronic beats one can hear during festivals here or there. It’s as if Mariah Carey got me to a universe I didn’t know the existence of so far. Anyway, better late than never, I suppose.
With warm thanks to you, IDMW, for sharin’ my thoughts…
This Beat Is Mine! (*)
Once in a week (on Wednesdays), IDMW is left with you at the command!
For this to happen, nothing’s more easy… What you’ve just got to do is drop us a line while using our contact form and let us know about your favorite piece of music (*), along with a review explaining what it suggests you and why people should dig it. And the best of it will be given a publication with your credit the week after.
With warm thanks to Atlantic City, NJ based correspondent, Sarah Cox, for this week’s suggestion…
Gladly welcoming yours to be published next Wednesday. On your marks!
