Mike Maurro in the Peak Hour Remixes!

Mike MaurroA native New Yorker, Mike Maurro was born in Brooklyn in 1973. He would live there for the first seven years of his life before his family made a permanent move to the Queens, where his passion for music first surfaced. At the age of 11, after watching the motion picture ‘Beat Street’, Mike began following Dance Music by scanning the top dance hits on New York City radio stations like Kiss-FM and Hot 103.5 among others. This would be the beginning of a long and patient maturation process seeing him studying the various aspects of music. From some of its main activists (in other words DJ’s and producers such as Arthur Baker, Afrika Bambaataa, John Jellybean Benitez and Louie Vega to name but a few) to spinning which he started doin’ back in 1986 as a mobile DJ before even being old enough to drive…
The real sign would happen though back in 1998 when Maurro submitted his mixes to Brooklyn’s own Joe Causi for his ‘Studio 54 Clubhouse’ show on WKTU. The latter was so impressed by the skill level of the tracks that he placed Mike into rotation with other popular NY area DJ’s such as Jenny Costa, Johnny D, or Delmar Browne. Not long after that, Mike began doing a weekly midday mix for the station, as well as classic dance mixes for 102.7 Mixx FM.
Mike embraced the remix world in 2010 with only a modest computerized set, dissecting a song at first then looking for the best combinations of instruments, creating breaks and eventually lengthening intros. He then met the legendary Tom Moulton in 2011 who got him under his guidance, pushing him to discover then develop his own style of remixing. Something you now can fully feel while havin’ a listen to his collection featuring Disco, Soul and Funk classics by the likes of artists such as Change, Slave, Candi Staton, The Detroit Spinners, George Duke, Ashford & Simpson and more remixed in obvious and absolute fine style…
Moulton is the Godfather of the remix. He has obviously got a disciple if not a spiritual son. [More info…]
