New Order – 5-8-6 (The Peel Sessions) (Strange Fruit)

John Peel managed to be the longest serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJ’s, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until the year of his death back in 2004. Renowned for his eclectic taste in music and inclination for some of the most progressive facets of it, he put together the regular ‘Peel Sessions’, which most of the times consisted in 4 songs recorded live by an artist in the BBC‘s studios.
More than 4,000 sessions have been recorded by the likes of over 2,000 artists, with some of them which he released along with Clive Selwood on their Strange Fruit Records label.
Famous Mancunian band New Order opened the ball in the series back in 1990.
John Peel died of a heart attack while on holiday in Cuzco, Peru on Oct. 25, 2004. He was 65.
