This Beat Is Mine! (*) Raphael Saadiq – Oh Girl (Columbia)
There’s nothing like natural beauty. In other words, forget about the artifices as they’re only a way to hide imperfections. Just like filters which act likes gambits at the end. I suppose that’s what I liked about Neo-Soul as it pretty much redefined the contours of the art. This leading us once again to the less is more concept.
I never understood why Columbia passed on releasing the vibrant ‘Oh Girl’ as a single. This highlight from Raphael Saadiq‘s ‘The Way I See It’ album just says it all in the simplest way. Bringin’ us back to the souvenir of Soul legends such as Marvin (Gaye) or Curtis Mayfield.
I wish we would have more music like this, with just the way it takes to go straight to the point. Oh Girl… Somehow takin’ on where the man left with ‘Skyy Can You Feel Me?’. Don’t you think?
Wishin’ a Happy Women’s Day to all the ladies in this house!

Once in a week (on Wednesdays), IDMW is left with you at the command!
For this to happen, nothing’s more easy… What you’ve just got to do is drop us a line while using our contact form and let us know about your favorite piece of music (*), along with a review explaining what it suggests you and why people should dig it. And the best of it will be given a publication with your credit the week after.
With warm thanks to Macon, GA-based correspondent, James Porter, for this week’s suggestion…
Gladly welcoming yours to be published next Wednesday. On your marks!
