René And Angela – I’ll Be Good (Special Mix) (Mercury)

Born in St Louis, MI, Angela Winbush was meant to become an architect, eventually singing to make extra money. She joined Mtume in the second half of the 7O’s, then eventually would be given a push by Gary Byrd who introduced her to Stevie Wonder whom she would work with as a backing vocalist as a member of Wonderlove.
She soon after met René Moore, with both of them becoming one of the leading duos in the first half of the 80’s along with Ashford & Simpson, leaving a consistant imprint on the R&B/Funk circuit with classics such as the sought after ‘I Love You More’, Your Smile and ‘You Don’t Have To Cry’.
Taken from the 1985 released ‘A Street Called Desire’ which would mark their debut on Mercury, but also end up being their very last one together, the Electro-synth led ‘Save Your Love (For #1)’ is arugably their biggest classic ever, featuring rapper Kurtis Blow, with production work by the likes of Bruce Swedien and Bobby Watson. With its follow-up – ‘I’ll Be Good’ – standing as one of their signature songs, in some SOS Band / Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced kinda vein with its complex synth and rhythm guitar lines over an infectious funky groove. Both of them disbanding soon after to pursue solo careers…
