Steve Winwood – Talking Back To The Night (Island)

A complete artist – he could sing and play instruments such as drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, violin and mandolin among others, Steve Winwood has embraced everything from Pop Rock to Jazz, Rhythm & Blues and Blues Rock, playing in groups (The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith And Co) as under his own banner.
Ironically, the title song of his album of the likes, released back in 1982, never got a single release, apart from an instrumental version as the flipside to ‘Valerie’ which is one of his biggest classics ever. A cut soon after given a brilliant cover version by the late Joe Cocker on his ‘Sheffield Steal’ album released that same year, along with Island label head/producer Chris Blackwell, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie) and Wally Badarou
