Most Wanted! Tavares – Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel (Capitol)
Cape Verdean brothers Tavares made themselves a solid reputation in the Disco/Soul scene by the mid-70’s. They eventually reached the Grail in 1975 with the #1 hit ‘It Only Takes A Minute’. A cut which both Jonathan Butler then Take That covered at their times. But the first cut coming to mind when thinking of them nowadays is probably ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’. A sugarish arranged piece of music, with production work by the likes of Freddie Perren. A cool jam which has managed to get more value along with time. Standing among those highly sought after gems on its 12″ promo release.
Formerly known as Chubby And The Turnpikes, The Tavares brothers changed their name to Tavares when signing with Capitol back in 1973.
They released a total of 11 albums for the label, delivering an impressive series of classics. From ‘It Only Takes A Minute’, their biggest success ever, to ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’ which is probably their most famous one. Not to mention ‘Whodunit’ to a lesser extend.
The title track of their final album for Capitol, ‘Loveline’ saw them embarking on a slightly different artistic path. Just like the groovier ‘Got To Find My Way Back To You’, from the aptly titled ‘New Directions’ album which marked their debut on RCA.
