The Isley Brothers – For The Love Of You (T-Neck Records)

O’Kelly Isley, Jr. was one of the founding members of Cincinatti, OH-hailing band The Isley Brothers along with his brothers Rudolph and Ronald, later joined by younger brothers Ernie, Marvin and Rudolph‘s brother in law Chris Jasper.
Originally a Gospel a Doo-Wop act, the band progressively came to integrate elements of Rock and Funk in their repertoire, with O’Kelly said by his brother Ernie to have discovered a then homeless Jimi Hendrix prior to offer him a job in the group.
The first success came with the 1959 released ‘Shout’ and switched to the higher gear, launching their own label (T-Neck Records) with the release of the Grammy Award winning classic ‘It’s Your Thing’.
The mid-70’s saw them at their peak with an impressive series of 1st class joints, be they on an uptempo mood as on the ballad front such as with the Quiet Storm classic ‘For The Love Of You’ which happened to be the follow-up to the mythic ‘Fight The Power’, taken from their 1975 released ‘The Heat Is On’ album.
O’Kelly, who contracted cancer, passed of a sudden heart attack on Mar. 31, 1986 in Alpine, NJ, aged 48.
