The Politics Of Dancing #30: Music is the soundtrack of our lives…

“What I love about your blog is how you manage to correlate life with music from different perspectives, and I think that is versatility…”, said WordPress blogger and dear friend Ruth Brodrick, responding to a comment we left as a thank you for nominating us for The Versatile Blogger Award

Music is the soundtrack of our lives

An expert on music psychology, Professor Adrian North of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK, has undertaken the largest study so far about musical tastes and personality type back at the end of the 2000’s, based on a panel of more than 36,000 people from all around the world. And it appears that the latter are closely related… “People do actually define themselves through music and relate to other people through it, but we haven’t known in detail how music is connected to identity”, he said. As a matter of fact, some elements of response as to which kind(s) of music people like may be reflected in the way they’re dressed, where they’re going, and eventually the way they talk too. So it’s not so surprising that personality should be related to musical preference. “We really got the sense that people were selecting musical styles to like that match their own personality”, North explained, adding that the research could have many uses in marketing: “If you know a person’s music preference, you can tell what kind of person he/she is, who to sell to…” That said, are we all made of one block? In other words, do we all react, behave… feel the same way 24/7 and this until the end of our lifetime??? I suppose most, if not all of us, would say no, and this is exactly where iDMW is to be found, with its editorial content meant to reflect this reality…

We all change along with time, even though our respective origins, environments, cultures will be for much on the path we’ll be following, as the cement of our evolution, and this including the said deviant behavior period we’ll get through during our adolescence. But if ever subdividing time into shorter periods, like say 24 hours or even less, chances are great you’ll agree on the fact we’re slightly not the same from a minute, an hour, a day to another. With this just being the proper of life… From our heartbeat (speaking of which music uses the same measure unit: the BPM), to our brain activity (based on the emotions we feel, the moods we’re going through), our biorhythm and the list goes on, with our taste subsequently echoing all these parameters…

Enough of these numerous things considered as the everyday routine in our respective lives to not contribute a bit more to this while remaining stuck to the samey kind of things. Besides, you wouldn’t probably think of being given the same food, day after day, so how could we ever think of providing you with the same vibes, from a day/week/month to another???
If this is being versatile, then we definitely are (and will always be!)…
