The Rotary Connection VS Nuyorican Soul – I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun

The Rotary Connection – I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun (Cadet Concept Records)
Taken from the 1971 released ‘Hey Love’ album which would be the last in a series of 6 by the likes of this Chicago-based psychedelic Soul/Jazz band featuring Minnie Riperton, as produced by the late Charles Stepney equally renown for his work alongside Earth, Wind & Fire and Deniece Williams‘s ‘Free’. Ironically, their most famous cut (although never released as a single), with thanks to Nuyorican Soul who would get it (back) to the attention of a new generation of music lovers with their cover version back in 1997.
Nuyorican Soul – I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun (Talkin Loud/Giant Step)
The official opener to the seminal Louie Vega & Kenny Dope‘s Nuyorican Soul album concept back in 1997, featuring Jocelyn Brown in some unexpected style, as explained by Vega in an interview we had by the end of 1996. Quite true to the original version by the likes of The Rotary Connection with backing vocals arranged by Lisa Fisher and strings conducted by the late Vincent Montana, Jr. (of MFSB and Salsoul Orchestra fame). A cut that would receive an awesome remix treatment as a 12″ by London Broken Beat Dons, 4 Hero
