The Salsoul Orchestra – Getaway (Salsoul Records)

Vincent Montana, Jr.‘s contribution in the maturation of contemporary music is just something of invaluable, from setting up the legendary Sigma Sound Studio alongside Joseph Tarsia in Philadelphia to his position as a major actor in the establishment of the Philadelphia Sound, gathering people from all origins/ethnics (Blacks, Jewishes, Italians, Rednecks), therefore embodying what Indamixworldwide is about… He played on and arranged countless pieces of music along with artists such as The Intruders, The O’Jays, The Trammps, William De Vaughn, Lou Rawls, The Stylistics and Teddy Pendergrass to name but a (very) few, eventually forming and leading MFSB
He would then join Salsoul Records in the mid-70’s, giving birth to The Salsoul Orchestra and collaborating with Loleata Holloway and First Choice. He eventually set up his own venture – Philly Works – later on, and is also remembered for his contribution to Louie Vega and Kenny Dope‘s seminal Nuyorican Soul album-concept, as for his collaborations with Louie Benedetti.
We find him here, along with The Salsoul Orchestra on this awesome cover version of Earth, Wind & Fire‘s ‘Gateway’, taken from the 1977 released ‘Magic Journey’ album and strangely featured as the B-Side of ‘Magic Bird Of Fire’ on 12″. With our deepest thoughts to his daughter, Denise Montana, who he’d also worked with under the Goody Goody guise (‘#1 Deejay’, ‘It Looks Like Love’)…
