10 essential DJ Spinna remixes

10 essential DJ Spinna remixesWe had this idea in mind for quite some time already. And what a better opportunity than our return in full activity to come up with these 10 essential DJ Spinna remixes. With the man perfectly embodying what our site is about as a matter of fact. In other words, the countless facets of the groove!

West End Records label head Mel Cheren used to say that “Disco was nothing but a club-oriented version of Soul Music”. With the same to apply to House Music as a matter of fact. Be it in regards to Soul, Disco, Funk. If not Latin or Afro.

I remember years ago havin’ a dinner with long time friend DJ Morpheus. Back from the Rennes Transmusicales festival, he didn’t have enough words to tell me how he got under cloud nine. And this, when comin’ to listen to the set of one of his alter egos. He then was speakin’ no one else but Vincent Williams aka DJ Spinna. A man whom he eventually introduced me to a few months later during the Miami Winter Conference…

Since then, I’ve always kept a careful ear on Morpheus‘s suggestions. Literally blown away myself by the versatility of Spinna. With thanks to an incredible background that eventually saw him jammin’ along with some of the most influential figures in the history of Hip-Hop. Beginning with his own group, The Jigmastas. And, in the meantime, providing the canvas for an array of that era’s lyrical giants. From Mos Def to Talib Kweli and De La Soul to name a few.

Turning heads throughout the industry, Spinna’s sonics soon infiltrated numerous genres. Tapped by everyone from Mary J. Blige, to Motown Records for his brilliant Michael Jackson remix of ‘We’re Almost There’. And if it wasn’t already enough, Spinna also went on to revive and revise Jazz and Soul giants. Beginning with Donald Byrd, Eddie Kendricks, Bill Summers, Roy Ayers and Al Jarreau. Though it goes without saying his most memorable remix goes to his monumental version of Shaun Escoffery’s ‘Days Like This’. Therefore transforming it into a worldwide dance floor anthem. Meanwhile catapulting him into his now stately touted presence in the Soulful House Music scene.

No need to say how this selection is way from being exhaustive. Nevertheless, you should find thereafter a pretty much illustrative sample of jams showcasing what our man is about.

Wishing you’ll enjoy the ride as much as we did, while putting this together for you. With your feedback, and a mention of your favorite song more than welcome…
