10 essential Louie Vega remixes

10 essential Louie Vega remixes10 essential Louie Vega remixes… West End Records label head Mel Cheren used to say that “Disco was nothing but a club-oriented version of Soul Music”. With the same to apply to House Music, be it in regards to Soul, Disco, Funk, Latin or Afro. This being pretty much what Louie Vega‘s been about since day #1. Meanwhile embedding his influences on his productions and remixes along with time in an instantly identifiable style.

A style synonymous with some of the most brilliant works one may think of. Along with Kenny Dope, under the Masters At Work guise. If not Nuyorican Soul, arguably giving birth to the most (the last?!?) ambitious concept in the history of Dance Music. As on his own or under the Elements Of Life banner, surrounding himself with some of the most talented artists in the world…

No need to say how this selection is way from being exhaustive. Nevertheless, you should find thereafter a pretty much illustrative sample of jams showcasing what our man is about.

Wishing you’ll enjoy the ride as much as we did, while putting this together for you. With your feedback, and a mention of your favorite song more than welcome…

10 essential Louie Vega remixes / Louie Vega & Jay ‘Sinister’ Séalee feat. Julie Mcknight – Diamond Life (Dance Ritual Mix) (Distance)
L.A.-based singer Julie McKnight came to recognition back in 2000 with the memorable ‘Finally’. Sharing the duties with K.O.T. (Sandy Rivera and Jay ‘Sinister’ Séalee) on French label Distance. Her biggest classic with its follow up released 2 years later on the same label. ‘Diamond Life’ seeing her this time sharin’ the duties with Louie Vega and one half of K.O.T.
10 essential Louie Vega remixes / 3 Winans Brothers feat. The Clark Sisters – Dance (Louie Vega Latin Soul Version) (Vega Records)
One of the definitive hightlights from Louie‘s ‘Starring… XXVIII’ album. We eventually welcomed it as a Single Of The Week back in April 2015. Then as our Single 0f The Year, no less. On a beat bringin’ us back to the souvenir of ChiChi Peralta‘s ‘Un Dia Mas‘. With Josh Milan on B-3 and Wurlitzer and Axel Tosca on additional keys. At times also reminding of Santana‘s keyboard part on the atmospheric ‘Singing Winds, Crying Beasts‘ (the opening cut from their 1970 ‘Abraxas’ album). With strong vocal performance by the likes of the 3 Winans
“You make me smile, you make me laugh, you make me dance…” Positively irresistible!
10 essential Louie Vega remixes / Elements Of Life feat. Josh Milan – Children Of The World (Roots Mix) (Vega Records)
Louie Vega and Josh Milan gave birth to regular stellar jams since the release of ‘Elements Of Life’ (the single) back in 2000. Credited to Louie Vega featuring Blaze, a cut which was the starting point of what was soon after to become Elements Of Life (the group). A collective of artists which Louie Vega put together. Featuring luminaries such as Anané , Cindy Mizelle and Josh Milan. But also Luisito Quintero and Lisa Fisher. Not to mention Gene Perez and Albert Sterling Melendez among others. ‘Children Of The World’ is most likely the highlight from their 2013 ‘Eclipse’ album.
10 essential Louie Vega remixes / Sara Devine – Special (Louie Vega Remix) (Vega Records)
You might remember her for her awesome vocal performance as Lynae on Hardrive 2000‘s memorable ‘Never Forget (When You Touch Me)’ on Strictly Rhythm back in 1999. If not on ‘Life’s But A Dream’ from Masters At Work‘s ‘Our Time Is Coming’ album 3 years later. Sara Devine has regularly crossed the path of Louie Vega as a producer, remixer or label head. The aptly titled ‘Special’ which saw the light back in 2005 standing therefore as her biggest classic ever…
