Classics: 50 Cent – In Da Club (Interscope Records)
“In da club…” The one of the #1’s, would get Rapper Curtis James Jackson III, better known as 50 Cent. And this, straight from his debut on Interscope Records back in 2003.
The man had come a long way though. Eventually selling drugs when he was an early teen. Then being hit by nine bullets in a 2000 shooting, soon after having left his illicit activities…
“In da club” The one of the (true) Rappers, as he mentions it in the lyrics of this gem. But also as one could understand it while havin’ a look at the video clip. With some images of surgeons treating him at the beginning. With the mam progressively goin’ for reeducation from then. Before comin’ to rap in da club! “Been hit with a few shells, but I don’t walk with a limp (I’m aight). In the hood in L.A. they sayin’, “50, you hot.” (Huh-uh). They like me, I want ’em to love me like they love Pac. But holla in New York, the niggas’ll tell you I’m loco (Yeah!). And the plan is to put the rap game in a chokehold (Huh-uh). I’m fully focused, man, my money on my mind. Got a mil’ out the deal and I’m still on the grind (Whoo!)”
50 Cent came to the attention of Eminem who hooked him up with producer Dr. Dre. With ‘In Da Club’ standing as the first of seven tracks they recorded in five days. 50 Cent writing its lyrics within an hour or so. With the rest almost being history on one of those typical straight in yo’face Dre‘s beats. The whole setting a Billboardrecord as the most listened-to song in radio history within a week.
