Alicia Myers – Right Here Right Now (Remix)

Tennerz: Alicia Myers – Right Here Right Now (Hallelujah Anyway) (DJ Spen, Gary Hudgins & Thommy Davis Remix) (Quantize Recordings)

“Hallelujah anyway… Right here right now!” Candi Staton or Gladys Knight more recently… As many top rated singers from back in the day who resurfaced like as if it was yesterday. With the same now happening to Alicia Myers. Herself remembered for the classics ‘I Want To Thank You’ and ‘You Get The Best From Me (Say, Say, Say)’ respectively released in 1981 and 1984 with production work by the likes of One Way.

Thirty years have gone since and the lady’s voice sounds more crystal-clear than ever. First appearing some seven months ago in an atmospheric jazzy/funk smooth vein built over a a rhythm-line reminiscent of Gwen Guthrie‘s memorable ‘Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent’, although on a slightly faster BPM. With the whole all in all being more of a Modern Soul joint than a soulful House one as rated as on Traxsource as a matter of fact.

“Hallelujah anyway… Right here right now!” this track is now given a new life. This in a remix pack including with this rework courtesy of Quantize Recordings’s own DJ Spen, Gary Hudgins and Thommy Davis.
As one might expect from them, this is just another classy rebuilding process meant to bring it to different horizons. With the lady’s voice sounding as captivating as back in the days of the memorable ‘I Want To Thank You’ and ‘You Get The Best From Me (Say, Say, Say)’. Hallelujah anyway (Right Here, Right Now!’

Overview
Born in Detroit, MI into a family of nine, Alicia Myers has an older brother, Jackie Myers, who happened to be a member of Chairman Of The Board. Both of them eventually endin’ up at the first place in a local talent competition in April 1968 at Detroit’s Martin Luther King Jr. High School. This while givin’ their own rendition of Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell‘s ‘Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing’.

History being what it is, she left her hometown 10 years later. Thus relocating in Los Angeles, CA. There, she joined forces with Al Hudson & The Soul Partners who, soon after her arrival, eventually turned their name into One Way featuring Al Hudson. Then One Way starting from 1981. Meanwhile this joint venture had already proved to be successful. This, most likely with the release of the anthemic ‘You Can Do It’ back in 1979. A cut which Alicia Myers co-wrote with Kevin McCord as a matter of fact. Just like ‘Do Your Thang’ which appeared as a part of the second One Way featuring Al Hudson‘s album the year after.

Another year on (1981) and Myers came up with her debut-album by the likes of Alicia. But although she’d left the band to do her own thing, she kept on collaborating with some of its members. From Kevin McCord to Al Perkins among others. This most likely resulting in the memorable ‘I Want To Thank You’ which many luminaries happened to sample along with time. From Mariah Carey back in 1991 on ‘Make It Happen’ to Father MC on ‘Close To You’ the year after. Not to mention Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip on Busta‘s ‘Thank You’ in 2013 among others.

Delivering four albums on MCA, Alicia Myers delivered another goodie. This by the likes of ‘You Get The Best From Me (Say, Say, Say)’ written by
Al Hudson and Kevin McCord. In other words, what would be the opening cut to her final album for the label.

From then on, we would have to wait until 2011 to get something new from Myers. This under the form of ‘Peace Of Mind’, an album that saw the light on British label Love Town Music. Meanwhile her latest delivery dates from 2015 with a single titled ‘Right Here Right Now (Hallelujah Anyway)’. The latter receiving the remixing treatment of Quantize Recordings CEO DJ Spen along with Gary Hudgins and Thommy Davis.
