Archie Bell & The Drells – Let’s Groove (TSOP)

Gifted with an uncomparable voice, Texas-born Archie Bell appeared as a natural band leader. Along with The Drells, he’s responsible for countless Soul masterpieces such as ‘Tighten Up’ or ‘Here I Go Again’ which marked their period with Atlantic. But also a bunch of vaults on Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff‘s TSOP/Philadelphia International Records labels like ‘Soul City Walk’, ‘Everybody Have Good Time’ and ‘Strategy’…
The opening cut from their 1975 released ‘Dance Your Troubles Away’ is another definitive must have, seeing once again Bell introducing himself and the Drells as hailing from Houston, TX, the way they did 7 years before on ‘Tighten Up’, with production work by the likes of McFadden & Whitehead along with Vic Carstarphen. Strangely, it only got released as a 7inch, divided in two parts, which makes the album version better worth the investment.
Bell left his pals in 1980 to pursue a brief solo career, best remembered for ‘Any Time Is Right’ on Indie label Becket Records…
