Boogie Down Dee Jays – We Born That Way (Good For You Records)

40 years have gone since the release of Valentino‘s ‘I Was Born This Way’. A seminal song initially built on a 4X12 driven rhythm pattern which would soon after become the anthem of a whole generation (at a time when homosexuality was still considered as a disease), as covered by Carl Bean. US early House producer Pal Joey brilliantly mashin’ it up with Chic‘s ‘Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)’ and Debbie Malone‘s ‘Rescue Me’ 15 years after on his biggest classic ever – ‘Dance’ – under his Earth People guise, itself soon after sampled by Masters At Work on their production of ‘Dance (Do That Thing) for Black Magic.
Another 25 years have gone since, with the Boogie Down Dee Jays adding their name to the legacy with their reconstruction of the whole for the new generations…
