Carl Bean – I Was Born This Way (Motown)

Classics: Carl Bean – I Was Born This Way (Motown)

Hailing from Baltimore, MD,and the founding prelate of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, a liberal protestant denomination that is particularly welcoming of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual African Americans, Carl Bean made himself widely recognized for his 1977 released version of ‘I Was Born This Way’.
Written by Chris Spierer and Bunny Jones, this Gay liberation anthem (one of the very first songs in the genre back then) was first released in 1975 (on Motown as well) with Chris Harris aka Valentino taking the center stage. Bean covering it 2 years after, with production work by the likes of Norman Harris, Ron Kersey and T.G. Conway and mixing work courtesy of Tom Moulton
