Let me first start with a question. Which song(s) first come to your mind when thinkin’ of Cheryl Lynn??? Most definitely ‘Got To Be Real’. Possibly ‘Shake It Up Tonight’ or ‘Instant Love’. If not ‘Georgy Porgy’ where she appeared as a featuring singer along with Toto. But what about the firing ‘Star Love’??? That’s pretty much another story. And this, because the label released it after the memorable ‘Got To Be Real’ which most likely overshadowed it. And by this, I mean outside America.

Anyway, never too late to give it some extra ackowledgement, with Lynn scoring one of her most significant vocal performances ever. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not nostalgic. But you wouldn’t find music like this anymore nowadays. And this for the simple reason of its concept, starting on a slow dance/quite storm mood before stormin’ the floor. Just the way Diana Ross did it on ‘Love Hangover’ back then. If not Alicia Myers on ‘You Get The Best From Me (Say Say Say)’.

‘Star Love’ is simply a standout gem, with production work by the likes of David Paich which you might remember for his collaborations as a producer with Toto and Boz Scaggs to name but a very few…
