Could music have become a function nowadays? Well, frankly speaking, the temptation for me to say yes isn’t that far. And this simply judging by the way the record industry puts out music on a mainstream scale nowadays. Establishing formats in relation with the hype and current trends. And this with the will to make nothing else but immediate profit meanwhile using great distribution marketing techniques…
Could music have become a function? At least it doesn’t seem to make exception. As a matter of fact, feels like one does everything to make us swallow the same kinda sh** at the same time on almost every part of the world. As if everything was meant to be like THE answer to every moment of the day… With countless faces the record industry would like us to consider as (true) artists on top of it!
Well, as always, time always speaks for itself. And God knows as to how it has already spoken too much when comin’ to think of the crap landin’ next to our door! And I’m not too sure, if not quite doubtful as to how (and if ever) we’ll remember this sh** in some 20 years period of time. Like the way we may keep on appreciating artists like Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley or Stevie nowadays! With the reason for that being quite simple… These (true) artists definitely had something in their music. That thing that would make it becoming a message on its own.
No need saying as to how we’re miles away from those sample made constructions by the likes of virtual clones. As many people who, without the assistance of the technology, wouldn’t be able to produce anything! With this in mind, don’t get me wrong though. As I’m not saying self-proclaimed non-musicians don’t know how to make music. As a matter of fact, how not to think of German collective Jazzanova for instance?
Besides, let’s not forget that music is first and foremost an expression of art. Like painting or sculpture with their existing main reason being to provide an emotion.
So let me humbly ask then… Is emotion supposed to (also) be formatted. And, if ever, are we supposed to react to it the same way???
I guess I’ll keep on listening to music. And this as long as people will have the know how to touch my heart and soul. I guess I’ll keep on givin’ the greatest attention to these devoting themselves with the aim to make our world better. Meanwhile spreading positive vibes such as Love, Unity, mutual respect, understanding. Not to mention charity causes. In other words, what I would call the noblest function on such circumstances. With my sincerest props to them…
Could music have become a function? For some, the answer is most definitely yes. And I most likely feel like I have nothing to do with them. I just guess I would put a definitive end to my activities if I was to consider music – and more widely art – had become a function. How about you?
