Crown Heights Affair – Say A Prayer For Two

Most Wanted! Crown Heights Affair – Say A Prayer For Two (De-Lite Records)

Among their biggest classics with ‘Galaxy Of Love’, ‘Dance Lady Dance’ and ‘You Gave Me Love’. And obviously their most sought after. The souvenir of heavy battles on eBay to get its limited promo 12″ release aptly speakin’ for itself!
A cut which the late David Mancuso heavily championed at the time. Eventually including it on the first volume of his ‘The Loft’ compilations.

Overview
Hailing from Brooklyn, NYC, and getting their name from a district of their native neighborhood, Crown Heights Affair saw the light in the early 70’s. Originally known as Ben Iverson And The Nue Day Express, they were founded by the then bassist Donnie Linton. Among their members, Ray Reid and William ‘Bubba’ Anderson who would soon make a name for themselves in the production. The list of their clients including France Joli, Unlimited Touch, Empress and Trilark among others…

Making their debut back in 1974 on RCA with their self-titled LP, they made their way to recognition with De-Lite Records. There, they released a total of 7 albums between 1975 and 1983, resulting in an impressive list of essential jams. From ‘Dreamin A Dream’ to ‘Galaxy Of Love’. But also ‘Dance Lady Dance’ and ‘You Gave Me Love’. With ‘Say A Prayer For Two’ makin’ no exception.

Crown Heights Affair definitely led the ball on the Disco/Funk scene with their insane horn led jams melted with killer synth parts. Therefore, heavily competing for supremacy with other formations such as Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang. Not to mention Players Association or Rhyze to a lesser extend.

Raymond Reid sadly died of cancer at the age of 60 on May 21, 2013, almost 9 years after the passing of his young brother, Bert.
