Culture is our ID! Do you remember?

“Without memory, there is no culture. Without memory, there would be no civilization, no society, no future”, said Elie Wiesel. History has nevertheless sadly shown us along with time how ignorance and miseducation remain the sources of misunderstanding. Leading on most cases to the fear. If not the refusal of the other. The latter most likely engendering obscurantism. Itself giving birth to evils such as revisionism and the Holocaust denial for instance…

Let’s not forget how “Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers”, also said Paul Coelho. “But first they have to understand that their neighbour is, in the end, just like them. With the same problems, the same questions..”

culture idIt is to say how quintessential it is to be aware of our respective origins. Then do whatever we can to keep the foundations upon which humanity has built itself along with time alive. As it’s nothing but the cement of our evolution, our DNA as a kind, as as many fragments of it…
“We, as individuals, are the results of our common history”, said to me American singer CeCe Rogers during one of our conversations. “Should America have been invaded by the Romans as opposed to the Brits, then chances are great its architecture would be way different!”

“The first step – especially for young people with energy and drive and talent, but not money – the first step to controlling your world is to control your culture. To model and demonstrate the kind of world you demand to live in. To write the books. Make the music. Shoot the films. Paint the art.” (Chuck Palahniuk)

“Fado, as an expression form of singing, would certainly not be what it has become. This without its regular back and forth from Portugal to its former colonies such as Brazil or Angola”, explained to me Madredeus. Meanwhile, and unlike a big majority of us tends to think, “Flamenco wasn’t born in Spain. But from an ancient form of traditional dance music hailing from the North Of India”, said to me Nitin Sawhney. In other words, being brought from East to West while using the Marco Polo route…

Knowledge is the key to understanding… This explaining the necessity for each of us to be able to find whenever needed the essential references to (ensure) our evolution. With, as a result, all attempts to destroy them to be considered as as many crimes against humanity. As denying the heritage of our ancestors. And therefore, each of us as individuals.

More than ever, culture is our ID! Do you remember?
