Cunnie Williams – Do I Have To (Yo Mama's Recording)

Not released as a single, although appearing as Soulstaff featuring Cunnie Williams on the ‘Soul Of The City vol. 1’ compilation and taken from his 1993 released ‘Coming From The heart Of The Ghetto’ album on German label Yo’ Mama, the first effort by the likes of LA-born Cunnie Williams, in search of a conversion after the premature stop of his career as a basketball player. And the temptation at first listen to make a connection with Gil Scott-Heron. Produced by Ralf Droesemeyer, an absolute masterpiece released at a period when Hamburg stood as an oasis for the lovers of the groove with local labels such as Soulciety, Crossroads, not to mention the Mojo, a concert place made famous for welcoming the creme de la creme of the Acid/Jazz Rare Groove activists back then. Williams would come to wider recognition later on while associated with producer Mousse T.
