Here we go there with their biggest classic alongside ‘Bra’, taken from their 1972 self titled debut album. Formed by Steve Scipio and Patrick Patterson the year before in London along with musicians from The West Indies, Cymande set the staples for the rare groove scene which would make noise in the London and NYC club scene by the end of the second half of the eighties. Their music would get an extra regain of notoriety while sampled by Hip-Hop artists on both sides of the Atlantic from De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc Stateside to MC Solaar in France…

Among France’s most internationally popular and influential Hip-Hop artists, Claude M’Barali, better known as MC Solaar, made his reputation upon complex lyrics mainly based on word play (ie. ‘Caroline’ and ‘Nouveau Western’ built on a sample of Serge Gainsbourg & Brigitte Bardot‘s ‘Bonnie & Clyde’). He would get straight to international recognition with this Cymande‘s ‘The Message’ sampled jam, his first single back in 1990, which got him signed on Gilles Peterson‘s Talkin’ Loud label, prior to collaborate with Urban Species then the late Guru
