French DJ producer Manoo is in absolute top form. Something you can tell when listening to this definitive masterpiece featuring Beverlei Brown‘s mesmerizing soulful tones. With the whole layered over a bubbling African House rhythm pattern… And enlightened with sparkling keys and a stunning part of harmonica dancing on a simple yet irresistible bassline.

Overview
– From the early 90’s David Anthony has been knee deep into the US sound. First picking up with the vibe of Detroit, his real love coming from the soulful sound of New York. Spear headed by the legendary Tony Humphries.

David teamed up with Anthony Baugh to start Vice Versa. A label which went on to be one of the UK’s leading underground Dance imprints of its times. He soon found his music was being played and aired on major radio stations and night clubs. Using the alias’s Device and Devibes, they produced over 35 releases having much success.
Starting to branch out licensing deals began to flow. Azuli Records picked up Michael Watford‘s ‘Coming Home’ along with Fayleine Brown‘s ‘You Know I Missed you’ and ‘Joy’. Licensing also followed with StrongHouse, Freetown Records and Public Demand.

Through the success of Vice Versa Records they quickly moved into the remix arena working for the majors (SDA was launched as another production name). These included Polydor, Universal and Ministry of Sound.

Early 2001 David launched HiLife Records which was a reflection of the market change from vinyl to MP3. He worked with Kathy Brown, Lisa Millett and Aleyshia Lei. And he also did remixes for Code Red, Universe Media and Liquid Deep. Eventually reworking Sted-E, Hybrid Heights & David Shaw feat. Byron Stingily‘s ‘Candy Rain’ along with DJ Spen. But also Jasper Street Company‘s ‘Wanna Be Happy’ with the latter among others.

Time has gone since with 2016 seeing Anthony releasing the aptly titled ‘Emotive’ long player on Quantize Recordings. An album where he collaborated with an impressive line-up of artists such as Sheree Hicks, Lisa Millett, and Byron Stingily. And also Rescue Poetix, Tasha LaRae (‘Live To Love’) and Beverlei Brown among others. The latter contributing to ‘I Don’t Know Why’ then ‘I’m Free’ a few months later. With both of them receiving the remixing treatment courtesy of Manoo.

– Lyon, the capital of Gaule (France’s former name), came to give a brilliant answer to the Parisian deep House scene. Back then, you would most likely see its activists becoming regulars a little club (although only by the size): L’Ambassade! In others words, people such as Klement Bonnelli, Lea Lisa and Rocco to name a few.

It was then just a matter of time before its DJ/resident – Manoo – would join the movement. Something he endly did back in 2002. Releasing his first EP – ‘Love island’ – with the latter and Alex Santos under the Rodamaal guise. The threesome getting extra recognition the year after with ‘Musica Feliz’ on Ben Watts‘ Buzzin Fly label. Before teamin’ up with Ludovic Allen for ‘The Good Reason’ on French label Basenotic that same year.

From then, Manoo established his own style. Crafting African influenced syncopated atmospheres such as on ‘This Is A Test’. A cut which Franck Roger signed on his Earthrumental label.

Becoming one of the most sought after remixers, he collaborated with countless luminaries. From Dennis Ferrer to Osunlade, Louie Vega or St-Germain. Not to mention David Anthony and Beverlei Brown on ‘I Don’t Know Why’ which stands among our 10 essential Quantize Recordings gems. Then ‘I’m ‘Free’ for the latter a few months after. Meanwhile eventually influencing younger pairs likeDJ Micks. Such as the latter stated it on his memorable rework of Gladys Knight‘s ‘Neither One of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye)’.

His rework of ‘Ilanga’ for upcoming South African producer KingSfiso brilliantly pushing the vibe forward.
