Dimitri from Paris – One For Frankie

Tennerz: Dimitri from Paris & DJ Rocca – One For Frankie (Gomma Records)

‘One for Frankie’… Kinda hard not to think of the late Frankie Knuckles as a matter of fact. With Dimitri from Paris and DJ Rocca bringin’ us back to the early days of (Chicago) Deep House, together as Erodiscotique.

For this, they most likely come up with a deliberately pumpin’ beat. Meanwhile blending it with elements reminding of Robert Owens‘s ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’. But maybe even more of Larry Heard‘s Mr Fingers ‘Can You Feel It’. From its rhythmic to its bass lines. This, along with a flute part adding a lot of melancholy if not nostalgia to the whole. Just like Don Carlos did back in the early 90’s for instance on the memorable ‘Alone (Sax Ambient)’.

One for Frankie… Wherever he may be, I’m pretty sure he’ll appreciate the gesture. How about you? We, as usual, welcome your feelings…

Overview
– Born in Turkey of a Greek descent, Dimitri Yerasimos has grown up in Paris. He started building his musical background while watching TV series and films such as ‘Impossible Mission’, ‘007’ among others. This is probably where he would get this inclination for cinematic atmospheres one can find on some of his productions. In the meantime, he became an avid fan of Bernard Schu‘s ‘Club Hits’ on RTL. One of the most significant shows ever broadcasted on a French speaking radio station back in the early 80’s. This would give birth to another of his favorite activities. Doing radio shows, successively on Radio 7, Skyrock, NRJ then later on on Radio Nova.

I first met him by the second half of the 80’s. He was then doin’ reedits for the DMC. And in the meantime he also started doin’ a lot of remixes for French Pop artists. His remix of Björk‘s ‘Human Behaviour’ came to the attention of David Morales who initially thought it’d been done by Deee-Lite‘s Super DJ Dimitri! Starting from then, Yerasimos would strengthen his reputation as Dimitri from Paris to avoid any confusion.

Dimitri‘s discography is the illustration of the many facets of his personality. With Disco and House Music counting as his favorite genres. But also Easy Listening and kitsh approaches.

Whatever he touches, Dimitri brings us to the idea of refinement which has been for much on the worldwide reputation of the French Fashion.

Luca Roccatagliati aka DJ Rocca started producing music in late 90’s. Back then, you would find him evolving between Breakbeat and Drum & Bass as Maffia Soundsystem from the club of the name in Italy. DJ Rocca has collaborated with cats such as Howie B, Pressure Drop, Zed Bias and Jazzanova.

Productionwise, he joined forces with Daniele Baldelli, producing the ‘Podalirius’ album back in 2012. But also with Dimitri from Paris with whom he gave birth to Electro Disco act Erodiscotique. Together, they dropped an eponymous label back in 2016 on Japanese label, BBQ and 4 EP’s so far on Gomma Records. Meanwhile Rocca teamed up that same year with Franco D’Andrea (piano) and Andrea Assayot (saxophone). Playing electronic percussion on the ‘Electric Tree’ album (Parco Della Musica)

Quite busy, DJ Rocca also runs his own label, Danny Was A Drag King. Releasing music from the likes of Ajello, Supersonic Lovers and Luminodisco. Not to mention Verdo, Marcello Giordani and Hard Ton.
