Doug Gomez and Toto Berriel… Two names whom, you, regular of these shores, should now be familiar with now. With the first, a DJ/producer hailing from the Big Apple now residing in Costa Rica. And the second, a Cuban percussionist and vocalist responsible for ‘El rey de los truenos’, along with Myles Bigelow. A firing percussive jam which we featured in our 10 essential 2016 tracks list.

Further to ‘Date respeta guajiro’ which saw the light back in Spring 2016, Berriel and Gomez go for an encore with ‘Coros en la calle’. And what a composition this is (its title meaning ‘choirs in the street’). Most likely standing as the latest episode of Gomez‘s introspective trip into his Latin roots as a matter of fact. Although way more in a traditional vein. In other words, World Music…

Overview
Hailing from the Big Apple, Doug Gomez started his career back in 1987. As a true New Yorker of Latin decent, his love for drums and sophisticated melodies led him to be embrace the path of DJing and production. He notoriously worked for Waako Records from 1994 to 2005 as A&R/promotions director. A label that had artists such as K.O.T., Lenny Fontana, Kenny Carpenter, Mood II Swing and Louie ‘Balo’ Guzman to name a few.

In 2007, he teamed up with a friend to create music together under the alias DRRTYHAZE. A venture which got them signed to labels like Gomma, TIRK, and Nang amongst others.
7 years later, in 2014, the calling to move to Costa Rica where he now resides came as an evidence for his creative growth. Doug Gomez is now slowly but surely spreading his sound in the region as well as the world.

Running his own label – Merecumbe Recordings – we welcomed him since on a regular base on this shores. With stellar gems such as ‘Meta Morpho Sis’ and ‘Coros en la Calle’ featuring Toto Berriel. But also ‘Tribes Of The Jaguar’. Not to mention his remix of N’Dinga Gaba, Jaidene Veda feat. Josh Milan‘s ‘Beautiful’. And, more recently, his rework of Those Boys‘Titled Love’. This in addition to his collab with South African singer Unqle Chriz on the soothing ‘My Everything’.
The final part of 2018 seeing him delivering a stellar reconstruction of Coflo feat. Lady C‘s ‘Reasons’
