I’m pretty sure you all have heard this song at least once. Be it the original version or as covered by Sergio Mendes. And, if not, by French Japanese group United Future Organization!

First released back in 1966, ‘Upa Neguinho’ stands as one of the biggest standards of the Bossa Jazz movement. But also one of the biggest classics ever to be credited to Brazillian singer, guitarist and composer Eduardo de Góes Lobo, better known as Edú Lôbo. A man who made his reputation with gems such as ‘Ponteio’ and ‘Pra Dizer Adeus’ among others. He eventually recorded another version of the aforementioned the year after along with Maria Bethania.

‘Upa Neguinho’ just brings me back to the souvenir of my childhood along with my dad who was an avid Jazz collector…
