En Vogue – Hold On (Video Version)

Classics: En Vogue – Hold On (Atlantic)

Hold on! Here we certainly have the biggest success ever for producers Denzil Foster & Thomas McElroy (Club Nouveau, Toni, Tony, Toné!).

Hailing from California Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis joined forces with the aim to stand as the contemporary response to Motown famous The Supremes. Something they pretty much did as a matter of fact. Eventually melting classic Soul style vocals with street beats. And that would be a winning formula. Beginning with the infectious ‘Hold On’. A smooth R&B jam which opened itself on an a capella rendition of the Smokey Robinson penned ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’ for The Miracles. And soon after borrowing a sample from James Brown‘s ‘The Payback’. En Vogue from then becoming one of the most successful girl bands in the history of music…

“Hold on to your love…” I still can hear comin’ after all these years…
