First Listen: Alex Finkin feat. Vanina Pietri – I’m Leaving (Tribe Records)
“I’m leaving…” is something that Vanina Pietri has obviously experienced.
Better be free and therefore explore things than becoming the prisoner of a system / of someone as a matter of fact… This is what pretty much sums up the career of the lady. A Corsican/Algerian singer who, although havin’ the potential to win an episode of famous TV song contest ‘Star Academy’, obviously preferred remaining herself. And who could ever blame her for this, judging by the global level of French artistry? An artistry speaking of which only the Froggies obviously think it’s relevant. Eventually delighting themselves into what they call the French exception. Be it with the usual results we know from a year to another at the Eurovision contest for instance…
From then, the young lady who believed in her talent got pretty well inspired to cross the Atlantic. Thus improving her signing technique in New York. With the result speaking for itself on the heartfelt ‘I’m Leaving’. This along with producer Alex Finkin‘s subtle jazzy arrangements over a deep and smooth groove…

Alex Finkin is a French producer whose name is synonymous with quality and versatility. The first traces of him bring us back to 2005 and his association with Reverend P at the time. The twosome delivering their first single – ‘If You Find Your Way’ – along with singer Chynna Blue on Funk La Planet.
2007 saw them starting what would be a regular collaboration with Jocelyn Mathieu. From ‘Fight For Love’ on Tejal Records. To ‘Can’t Get Enough’ three years later on Animal House. Not to mention ‘Those Days Are Gone’ which Louie Vega eventually licensed on his Vega Records label back in 2009.
Working parallelly on his own projects, Finkin has notably produced ‘The Man’ from Aloe Blacc‘s 2013 ‘Lift Your Spirit’ album. But also ‘Better’ for Dance Culture along with Kenny Bobien. Meanwhile he has also collaborated a couple of times with Hanna Hais. Then he has shared the bill with Greg Gauthier. This on ‘Sure Thing’ featuring Miranda Nicole for UK label Makin’ Moves back in 2015.
Finkin eventually opned his acount on Tribe Records two years after. This on the soothing ‘I’m Leaving’ featuring the sultry Vanina Pietri. And he also happened to remix ‘Ma Ma Warn Me’ for DJ Pope featuring Jocelyn Mathieu that same year.
