Classics: Fred Wesley & The JB’s – Blow Your Head (Urban)
Blow your head and not only! Seeing the light in 1989 on UK-Polydor subdivision Urban. And this back in the days of the Acid Jazz/Rare Groove era. The furious psychelectrojazz/funk aptly titled ‘Blow Your Head’. Most likely a timeless gem featuring Fred Wesley on trombone, Maceo (Parker) on sax and Bobby Byrd on synth. With the whole over a rumblin’ bassline courtesy of Fred Thomas with production work by the likes of James Brown.
Definitely one of the craziest grooves ever. Therefore, no wonder how it got sampled in some 150 + different productions. From De La Soul (‘Oooh’) to Bomb The Bass (‘Beat Dis’). Not to mention Run DMC (‘Can I Get A Witness’). If not D-Influence‘s ‘No Illusions’ and more precisely the Blue Soul Mix to name but a very few.
Let the rhythm blow your head and more!
