The title track from Harvey Mason’s 1979 album of the name. ‘Groovin’ You’ stands among the most sought after Promo 12″ on Arista. Sharing the status with with Ray Parker, Jr.‘s ‘It’s Time To Party Now’. Not to mention Phyllis Hyman‘s ‘You Know How To Love Me’.

Somehow reminding of George Duke and Earth Wind & Fire vocally speaking. ‘Groovin’ You’ is most likely Mason‘s most famous jam.

Gusto notoriously sampled it back in 1995 on ‘Disco’s Revenge’.

Overview
Born in Atlantic City, NJ in 1947, Harvey Mason made himself quite a reputation as a drummer and a producer. Remembered for his collaborations with countless lumimaries. From Herbie Hancock‘s Headhunters to the Mizell Brothers and George Benson among others. He has dropped 9 albums under his own banner.

Among his masterpieces, ‘Groovin’ You’ featuring Ray Parker, Jr. on guitar. But also the boiling ‘How’s It Feel’ released 2 years later as a part of the ‘M.V.P.’ album.

Mason is also remembered as a member of Fourplay with Bob James, Chuck Loeb and Nathan East.
