Ice T – O.G. Original Gangster (Sire Records)

Classics: Ice T – O.G. Original Gangster (Sire Records)

Like it or not, countless are those who went thru being a so to say original gangster as depited by Ice T. And by that, I mean people who apart from havin’ a role in the sports or in the entertainment industry found themselves with no other choice than acting like an outlaw at a moment or another. This in addition to the many of those have found a way to make fast money in doin’ so.

I guess it won’t be an offense stating that “gangsterism” is pretty much the dark side of the American Dream. With original gangster …ism pretty much standing as the biggest curse the United States have had to face since their constitution. Meanwhile deadly affecting the Afro-American community.

“I’m from South Central, fool, where everything goes. Snatch you out your car so fast you’ll get whiplash. Numbers on your rooftop for when the copters pass. Gangbangers don’t carry no switchblades. Every kid’s got a Tec 9 or a hand grenade. Thirty-seven killed last week in a crack war, hostages tied up and shot in the liquor store. Nobody gives a fuck!” As many words speakin’ for themselves. With Ice T droppin’ at the time what would be seen as an alert nowadays. Sadly enough (once gain), almost 30 years have gone, and nothing has changed.

The title track of Ice T‘s 1991 album of the likes, ‘O.G. Original Gangster’ saw him sharing the duties with DJ Aladdin and SLJ productionwise. Meanwhile featuring a complex blend of samples. From James Brown‘s ‘Funky Drummer’ and Dexter Wansel‘s ‘Theme From The Planets’. This in addition to Melvin Bliss‘ ‘Synthetic Substitution’ and Thin Lizzy‘s ‘Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed’.

What’s the value of your vinyl record?

Overview

With the latter seen as a glamorization of killing police officers!

He’s on the other side remembered for his role as Detective Scotty Appleton on the 1991 seminal Mario Van Peebles directed ‘New Jack City’. A film that happened to be the start of a serious acting career for T. This before starring in ‘Ricochet’, ‘Trespass, ‘Surviving The Game’, ‘Johnny Mnemonic’ and ‘Tankgirl’ among others.
