First Listen! Jamie Lewis presents Soulstar Syndicate & Darryl D’Bonneau – Do You Remember (Original 15min. Vibeapella) (Purple Music)
I can’t help myself thinking of Blaze‘s ‘Do You Remember House’ when havin’ a listen to this joint courtesy of Purple Music label head Jamie Lewis along with Claudio Di Carlo & Akri Jr. aka Soulstar Syndicate. And even more on the rough original mix starring Darryl D’Bonneau as the MC. A track that evokes so many (common) souvenirs that got us lovin’ House Music the way we do, regardless where we all may be comin’ from.
I can 1000% get the nostalgia around, with the memorable ‘Golden Era’ by the likes of David Morales and Róisín Murphy coming back to my mind as well. The visual of this piece adding much to the feeling…

– A native of South Carolina, Darryl D’Bonneau stands among the most beautiful voices in the circuit. Most likely belonging to the first league along with the late K.T. Brooks. But also Arnold Jarvis and Robert Owens. He made his debut back in 1992 with ‘More Than Anything’. The first in a impressive series of impressive gems. Beginning with the 2000 Disco-influenced ‘Stop Playing With My Mind’ built on a sample of Black Ivory‘s classic ‘Mainline’. Meanwhile scoring his biggest success along with Barbara Tucker. With other tracks worth the listen including ‘A Better Way’ and ‘Revenge’. But also the incredible ‘Miracles’ which is probably his most vibrant performance ever. With respective remixing work courtesy of 83 West, Scott Wozniak and Jon Cutler. Three cuts one could find on his 2008 ‘Remixed, Reworked & Reimagined’ album on Jellybean Soul.
Last but not least, he also teamed up with DJ Romain on the bumpin’ bass-driven ‘It’s The Spirit’. And he joined forces with Fuzion and K.T. Brooks. Altogether comin’ up with the uplifting ‘Unity (We Can Do This)’. Then with Jamie Lewis and Soulstar Syndicate on the ‘housetalgic’ ‘Do You Remember’.
