Joe Cocker – Talking Back To The Night (Island)

Taken from the 1982 released ‘Sheffield Steel’ album which, to me, stands as one of his most exciting ever, Joe Cocker‘s unmistakable voice getting into another dimension with label CEO Chris Blackwell in charge of the production, surrounded by Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Sly Dunbar on drums and Wally Badarou on keyboards givin’ an electronic Rasta feel to this boiling cover version of Steve Winwood‘s classic of the likes.
Quite weird if not ironical though to notice that it never got a proper release as a single despite its potential apart from being dropped as the flipside to his cover version of Jimmy Cliff‘s ‘Many Rivers To Cross’ on the UK release…
