The sad info has come to surface a couple of hours ago about the sudden passing of R&B/New Jack Swing singer Johnny Kemp, after The Bahamas Weekly reporting it, although contradictory rumors have been circulating about the reason of his death.
Johnny Kemp is reported to have been the victim of an accident this Thursday Apr. 16 after an accident on the Tom Joyner’s cruise where he was suppoosed to perform. Some other source stating that he died after falling and hitting his head. Meanwhile, Reach Media, the company responsible for The Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage, has issued a statement… “We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away. We do not have any other details. We can confirm he was not on the ship for the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise.”
Johnny Kemp started singing in nightclubs in the Bahamas at the age of 13, prior movin’ to New Yrok along with Kinky Fox. He is best known for ‘Just Got Paid’, initially an instrumental speaking of which which Keith Sweat passed on when it was first submitted to him in the mid-80’s. Kemp decided to make it his and released it back in 1988 as the opening cut to his ‘Secrets Of Flying’ album on Columbia, along with Aaron Hall and New Jack Swing mastermind Teddy Riley in the additional backing vocals and producing it in his distinctive approach.
