Classics: Karen Young – Hot Shot (Vocal) (West End Records)
‘Hot Shot’… That’s without a single doubt what Karen Young managed to come with. Literally takin’ the Disco scene by storm back in 1978. But also bringing Mel Cheren‘s West End Records label one of their best sellers in the meantime, along with Taana Gardner‘s ‘Heartbeat’.
As a matter of fact, ‘Hot Shot’ illustrated to the fullest Karen Young‘s talent. Showcasing the power of her voice and her obvious ability to scat. Teamin’ up with producers Andy Khan and Kurt Borusiewicz for the occasion. The whole in a vein more or less reminding of the Gibson Brothers‘ ‘Cuba’ which saw the light the same year.
Surprisingly enough, this would be her first and only success. Despite the release of an album of the likes that same year and a bunch of extra singles on various labels during the 80’s.
