Janet Jackson, Common, Jill Scott, Disclosure, Mobb Depp, Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu are just about the few ones he’s been remixing or producing. This giving an overview as to what this young man is about, open to collaborate with superstars as underground artists coming from various horizons, giving birth from the most progressive forms of Hip-Hop to the most unsuspected approaches as far as Deep House is concerned. With the best illustration to be found on his Soundcloud page.
Bringing us back to a period when music was considered as a whole as opposed to nowadays’s myriad of microniches, Kaytranada differs by an obvious eclectism that doesn’t seem to have limits. And the fact that he’s got signed on UK label XL Recordings (the home of Adele, Jamie XX, Gil Scott-Heron, Bobby Womack and The Prodigee) shouldn’t come as a surprise…
“It’s the record label that I really wanted to put something out with for a long time. I listen to their artists – M.I.A., Tyler the Creator – and it’s one of the labels I always wanted to be on and eventually, it happened. Maybe a few more people will find my stuff, my music, and give it a listen because it’s on XL. It’s a good label for people who are sort of lost and are like, ‘Let me see what’s going on'”, he admits.
Speaking of new singer Shay Lia who features on the atmospheric Housey ‘Leave Me Alone’ due to be included on his awaited new album, he says: “She’s so original I can’t even explain. You should hear her voice”. As of Vic Mensa on ‘Drive Me Crazy’: “He’s a good rapper, and he actually liked my stuff. Now our relationship’s grown—he’s always texting me about a song or beat. We made a bunch of songs that haven’t been released yet.”
Some of you actually might also remember the outstanding rework he made of Miami songstressTeedra Moses‘s ‘Be Your Girl’ which we warmly welcomed back then on our Facebook page.
No date announced as off yet regarding the release of Kaytranada‘s album, but expect to get there all the ingredients to drive you crazy. Besides, the fact he claims he’s a time decorator on his Twitter page is another (good) sign, huh?
