Classics: Kim English Learn 2 Luv (Mood II Swing Vocal) (Nervous Records)
I suppose it’s fair saying Mike was so to say born… music! From a dad (Sam Weiss) who himself was at the command of seminal Disco label Sam Records.
Livin’ with his time, Mike and his father launched Nervous Records back in 1990. Makin’ of it one of the oldest indie labels in operation nowadays. Meanwhile working with the creme de la creme of the New York House scene. From Masters At Work to Armand Van Helden, Kerri Chandler and Frankie Feliciano to name a few…
In the same spirit, I would say this piece of music has got a special flavor to me since the very first time I’ve been given to have a listen to it. I would stumble upon both Chicagoan songstress Kim English‘s voice, the theme of this song and the way Mood II Swing turned it into. Making of ‘Learn 2 Luv’ one of their most vibrant post-productions ever. And also my favorite tune of the WMC back in 1997, before becoming one of my all time favs…
“You’ve got to learn 2 luv yourself…” Such an uplifting message!

Chicago, IL native Kim English has certainly one of the most vibrant voices one may think of. With thanks to her obvious and also quite exceptional ability to modulate it. This pretty much allowing her to stand apart from many of her contemporaries.
A Gospel trained singer, Kim English delivered most of her music on NYC seminal label Nervous Records. Counting 2 studio albums so far, with ‘Higher Things’ back in 1998 and ‘My Destiny’ 8 years later.
She came to recognition in the mid 90’s, regularly toppin’ the US Dance Club Songs chart starting from 1998. Among our favorite gems from her, ‘I Know A Place’ with remixing work courtesy of Mike Dunn back in 1995. But also ‘Missing You’ and ‘Treat Me Right’ with reworks by the likes of Frankie Feliciano and Jon Cutler. Not to mention the uplifting ‘Learn 2 Luv’ which saw her collaborating with Mood II Swing back in 1997.
