LeMel Humes – Ain’t Nobody Like You (DJ Spinna)

Tennerz: LeMel Humes – Ain’t Nobody Like You (DJ Spinna Galactic Soul Remix) (Quantize Recordings)

We already told you all the best a couple of months ago about LeMel Humes‘s ‘Ain’t Nobody Like You’. A song which he wrote and produced for R&B songstress Miki Howard back in 1992, before givin’ it a cover version…

Well, the good news is that ‘Ain’t Nobody Like You’ looks set to go for another round via some remixing work courtesy of DJ Spinna. With the result sounding like another smoothie as one might expect. Most likely due to find a mention in a second volume of our 10 essential Quantize Recordings gems. And as if it wasn’t already enough, Jihad Muhammad delivers an extra rework also pretty much worth the mention…

Considering the career of Buffalo, NY-born LeMel Humes, I guess it’s fair to say he’s the perfect example of an accomplished maker.
Studying Civil engineering at The University Of Buffalo, he went on to work for his father’s construction company. Some of their projects including the Buffalo Hilton, The Buffalo Marriott and The Buffalo City Mission. But the man, who relocated to Los Angeles, CA, also took some role as a composer, songwriter and producer.

As a matter of fact, one can find the first traces of him back in 1982 as the producer of the highly sought after ‘Dance So Fine’ for the transient Nijel on Fantasy Records. Some mysterious guise to me back then speaking of which I red somewhere this was none other but Humes himself.

From then, he would collaborate with an impressive list of luminaries. From Miki Howard to Stacy Lattisaw. But also Stephanie Mills or Lavine Hudson. Not to mention Thelma and Whitney Houston.
