Lenny Kravitz: (Atmopshere) Strut

Lenny KravitzLike it or not, history is paved with countless examples of digressions without which contemporary music would certainly not be what it is. Therefore forming the so to say goodwill of fusions of all sorts. And this is exactly where Lenny Kravitz is to be found. Reminding of David Bowie some 30 years ago when he ‘dared’ jumpin’ on a Funk (influenced) wagon on his ‘Let’s Dance’ album with producer Nile Rodgers. But also Prince, although comin’ from the opposite perspective when fueling his repertoire with Rock jams. This with the talent we know and the accuracy the whole world has widely admitted…

The new album almost came by accident. With the same then to be said about this single… Lenny Kravitz said in substance on Billboard.com. With two weeks only needed to record it. This suggesting how it came up like a real need for a man immersed into filming activities over the recent years. “Making an album was the last thing on my mind. And all of a sudden I started hearing this music at night, and it wouldn’t go away. So I had two choices at that point. Either I ignore it and lose it, or I pay attention. I decided to pay attention. And this is what came out. Really fast. Like in two weeks, all of it.”

As for its concept, he added on Onstagemagazine.com “This record took me back to a place of what I love so much about music. Back to the feelings I had when I was in high school. It’s a real Rock & Roll record that hits hard rhythmically and explore desires in all forms. From the most physical to the most idealized. It’s a real Rock & Roll record. It’s raw, it’s got soul. With mixing work courtesy of Bobby Clearmountain who did the ‘Let’s Dance’ album for Bowie). And James ‘D-Train’ Williams, Cindy Mizelle and Tawatha Agee of Mtume fame on background vocals). And it came together very quickly”.

The first single taken from the above mentioned, “The Chamber” has the caliber of these songs meant to cross the boarders. Be you a Rock fan, as a lover of groovy music, with its funky bassline. But also soulful hints melted with Ambient tones reminding of Simple Minds. With its Paris shot ’50 Shades Of Grey’-inspired video under the direction of Anthony Mandler. And the presence of beautiful Dutch model Rianne ten Haken adding much to the whole…

‘Strut’ is out now on Lenny Kravitz‘s own Roxie Records Inc., distributed by Kobalt Label services…
